carriere motion appliance

The Carriere Motion appliance is used to correct a Class II malocclusion (increased overjet or overbite) or a Class III malocclusion (underbite). By wearing strong rubber bands, the back teeth move to help the teeth fit together properly, which reduces the time in treatment with braces or clear aligners.

how does it work?

The Carriere Motion appliance is bonded to your canine and molar teeth and hooks are bonded to the opposing molars. Using rubber bands that you attach to the Carriere Motion appliance and the hooks, the teeth move to the desired location.

Once the desired location of the teeth has been achieved, usually within 3 to 6 months, the Carriere Motion appliance can be removed and the next step in treatment can begin (usually with bonding braces or delivering aligners).

getting used to your appliance

It is extremely important to wear the rubber bands 20-22 hours per day (unless otherwise directed) to achieve desired results. The only time they should be out of the mouth is when you are eating or brushing your teeth.

The rubber bands should never be worn without your clear retainer (if you were given one). If worn without a retainer, the rubber bands will move the wrong teeth!

If you run out of rubber bands between appointments, feel free to drop by our office so we can give you some more. If you are unable to swing by, we would be happy to mail them to you. Simply contact our office and we’d be happy to help.

If your retainer is lost or broken, please call our office.

Keep your retainer away from pets, they love to chew them!

To clean your retainer, you can use a soft toothbrush and anti-bacterial hand soap or hydrogen peroxide. You may want to use a different toothbrush than you use for your teeth to avoid a soapy taste!

Do not place your retainer in the dishwasher or boiling water to clean it. Only use room temperature water when cleaning it to avoid distortion.

Only remove and replace the retainer using your hands as we showed you at the office. Biting it into place or using your tongue to flip it in and out may cause it to loosen or break.
